Tech Giant Samsung to Launch its First XR Headset It’s been a long time since tech enthusiasts have awaited updates about the headset.

Samsung

Earlier this year in the Galaxy Unpacked event the South Korean tech groups had tested its XR (Extended Reality) platform TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile Experience Business at Samsung Electronics, had mentioned that the XR headset would be coming this year. But, as of updates till now, Samsung won’t release the XR headset until the latter part of 2025 or it may take up to 2026. Although the company has been continuously working on the capabilities and functioning of the headset.

There could be major innovations in this headset even more intriguing is the claim that the headset will include augmented reality (AR) capabilities.

Samsung Electronics views XR devices as the future of its business, envisioning them as the successor to smartphones, which are often referred to as the “Galaxy myth.” As a result, the company is placing significant emphasis on research and development (R&D) to drive innovation in this space.

Why is the Samsung headset Delayed?

There could be many possible reasons for the delay in the release of the headset as XR encompasses virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR), and building an XR product is itself a complicated task it requires overcoming several technological hurdles like creating a lightweight headset with high resolution displays ensuring low latency and high performance to give a lag-free experience.

Samsung may be struggling to define which specific aspect of XR it wants to target and how to build a device that can excel in all or most of these areas.

Samsung may have delayed the headset to make it more compatible then the Apple Vision Pro. The Apple Vision Pro despite being an innovative device with advanced features was unable to achieve the level of success. The company could be addressing the strategies so as not to fall into the same situation.

In the XR space comfort is a major barrier as people want a lightweight headset that feels comfortable for a longer period of time when in use continuously and it is not an easy task for them to achieve.
