Microsoft is launching Automatic Pairing of Quest 1 on Windows 11 in December. It was announced by Meta at Connect 2024 that the company was working with Microsoft to make this happen. In December we can expect previews of this feature.

With the implementation of this feature, you will be able to use Quest 3 and Quest 3s seamlessly for a multi-monitor setup. This feature is known to Vision Pro as Apple’s XR Headset has been able to similarly connect via Mac Virtual Display since its launch in February 2024.

Microsoft says it’s going to launch the feature in a public preview in December. They are expecting to appeal to users who prioritize productivity.

“Windows in mixed reality brings the full capabilities of Windows 11 to mixed reality headsets, starting with Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S. Access to your local Windows PC or Windows 365 Cloud PC from a Quest headset is seamless and it takes only seconds to connect to a private, high-quality, multiple-monitor workstation,” .

Ar the Connect in September, Meta showed the ability to seamlessly connect to the PC by simply looking at the keyboard, allowing users to almost instantly have the computer’s windows right in front of them like those in Apple Vission Pro.

While Quests dominates the VR gaming industry, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg thinks that this integration is in the right direction for Quest, as many Quest users are Windows users as well and vice versa.

This is the path to building a general computing platform,It’s not just games, although [Quest] is really good at that. You’re also going to be to use it for apps, watching videos, and all of the different things you would do with a general purpose computer. Quest is the full package.”
